Cardiology is a field of medicine that deals with the study and function of Heart. This study involves understanding the functioning of the heart and also about its valves. It is the study that helps in gaining knowledge on how to tackle disorders caused to the organ. The heart is one of the most important organs of the body; its main function is to supply blood throughout the body and also to oxygenate the deoxygenated blood. Cardiology is divided into various branches based on the patient and the type of disorder. Cardiology can be further divided into surgical and non-surgical cardiology. It is one of the most important and developing branches in the field of medicine.

Clinical Cardiology deals with the particularly inpatient and outpatient, it involves clinical trials and case studies and thus helps in the field of research and development. Clinical cardiology involves the people working under the branch of cardiology such as Pediatric cardiologists, adult cardiologists also involves surgeons and nurses in the field of cardiology. Clinical trials and a case study of the patients is one of the important parts of clinical cardiology.

Cardiovascular diseases are a disorder which affects the normal function of the heart and blood vessels. The factors which causes myocardial infraction includes Genetics, Age, Sex, Tobacco, Lack of physical exercise and many more. The lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease is 50% high among the people. Myocardial infraction which is otherwise known as heart attack is mainly caused due to the unhealthy lifestyle of the people and some rare cases are due to the genetic reasons which is unavoidable. According to WHO, in 2015, approximately 17.7 million people died from cardiovascular disease worldwide. Upcoming generations are in the risk of getting cardiovascular diseases in their younger age, which threatens the availability of life in the world. Thus, the cardiology research is going on in order to safeguard the lives and to Protect the world from cardio vascular diseases.

Cardiomyopathy is a disease which is caused to the heart muscle, this disorder affects the heart muscle and thus causes alteration it the size, shape, and structure of the heart muscle and also causes discomfort to the patients in various ways such as swelling of legs, breathlessness and also causes heart failure. Cardiomyopathy can be divided into various types based on the effect it has on ventricles and on the heart muscle. It causes discomfort to the patient due to the stiffening and stretching of the ventricles. It shows no signs and symptoms during early stages of cardiomyopathy. It mostly occurs due to hereditary traits of the parent genes.

Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle fails to pump the blood, which takes place due to narrowed blood vessels, taking medications for other diseases & also due to high blood pressure. It is also a major disorder which can be fatal if not treated properly in proper time. Changing to the healthy lifestyle can decrease the risk of heart failure. Heart failure also occurs if there is stiffness caused by the organ and thus will cause disorders in the heart muscle to pump blood. Heart failure can occur due to blocks or for the patient who had suffered previously from the heart attack. If a patient is detected with heart failure, then there is a need for immediate treatment and surgery based on the condition of the heart.

Pediatric cardiology deals with the cardiac abnormalities that are caused to infants after birth and also the diseases that are noticed in the babies before birth. Cardiac problems in babies are increasing due to various types of diseases which is evolving due to hereditary reasons. Various types of blocks, as well as the atrium and ventricular disorders, are noticed in the infants, also there has been an increase in the VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) in the babies during birth. Defects such as deformities in the structure of heart are caused by birth, these defects are due to improper care during the pregnancy period or due to hereditary reasons.

Cardiac surgery is an invasive method used for the correction of certain disorders/defects caused to the heart. This surgery is done only by cardiac surgeons and helps in the correction of ailments caused, if the patient is suffering from blood clot then the doctors commence an open heart surgery wherein the clot is either removed and a stent is placed or the clot is removed using angioplasty method. In this method, the need for open heart surgery is not required with minimal loss of blood and with the help of catheters the clot is removed thus helping the heart function to be in stable condition. Also, for various types of valve replacements and for implantation in the heart, cardiac surgeries are carried out.

Cardiac imaging is a technique which is used to monitor the functioning and the condition of the heart muscle and its valves. Imaging technique helps in understanding any disorder caused to the heart or any kind of disorder that might occur soon. Cardiac imaging is further divided into invasive and non-invasive imaging techniques. By methods of Angiogram in which dye is injected into the bloodstream and based on the movement of the dye, the images are collected. Also, there are methods of using ultrasound for imaging purpose, this is used in Echocardiogram and is a non-invasive method for monitoring the heart and its functions. Thus, cardiac imaging is a wide branch and a useful methodology in medicine.

Cardio-Oncology deals with the problems of the heart that are caused in cancer patients during their treatment. This is mainly caused due to the heavy medications used for the removal of the tumour from the body. The medicines which include chemo affects the heart and causes disorders, there is also a larger type of defects caused due to radiation emission on the body for the removal of tumour, mainly women with breast cancer are more prone to cardiac defects. This type of cancer-related medications weakens the heart and causes disorders. This branch brings cardiologists and oncologists to work together and helps in monitoring the vitals of the patients having both the diseases and thus helping the patient to get more better treatment in order to have a longer lifespan.

Heart transplant is one of the most admired discoveries made in the field of medicine. This discovery and its methodology have opened ways for many patients with cardiac problems who seems to have no solution can go for a transplant which can extend their life-span. Heart transplantation is a risky process and is costly process. Earlier there was transplantation of heart from donors to the patients only, which used to be rare and hence many patients were not able to get a donor, but nowadays due to the introduction of Artificial heart patients have an option to go for artificial hearts and wait for a donor. Also, cardiac regeneration has paved way for repair of the heart without the need of transplantation and directly regenerating the tissues damaged due to cardiovascular diseases or due to heavy medications or radiation exposures.

Sports Cardiology is a branch of cardiology also known as exercise cardiology is also an important field in medicine as well as in the field of sports. There has been a number of incidents where the athletes from different field of sports have undergone cardiac arrests and other cardiac-related issues. There also have been deaths taking place in the field due to cardiac arrest among sports personalities. On contrary sports is one a major part for the healthy functioning of the heart, there are many benefits for the heart if a person is a sports player, sports help in proper circulation of the heart, normal blood pressure and also helps in pumping more blood throughout the body. Sports cardiology helps in knowing the heart condition during extreme work and during rest by monitoring process.

diagnostic test in cardiology is yet another type of monitoring the function and knowing the electrical activity of the heart muscle in the body. This type of tests uses devices that help in monitoring the various vitals of the heart, in this various equipment like sphygmomanometer, stethoscope help in knowing the blood pressure and if there are any disorders caused in the heart or in its functioning. In equipment such as Electrocardiogram the electrical activity of the heart can be monitored and through its resultant waveform in the P, Q, R, S manner the activity of the heart can be understood. Thus diagnostic methodology is an innovative field where improvements can be made for better precision and accuracy of the devices.

Cardiology has a broad outlook in the field of research as there are many areas in this field where many diseases and disorders do not have any solutions for correction and also the expensive treatments needs to be cheap with the use of different methodologies but giving the same effective result. Various developments in the field of imaging are been carried out where in the contrast and quality of the images are needed to be improved for better understanding while monitoring the heart. With the introduction of 3D printing, the modeling of various implants and artificial organs and valves have become easier and developments and research are been done on the same.

Implants in cardiology is a branch which has attracted a lot of research scholars as it is been used as a remedy for most of the cardiovascular disorders. Basically, an implant is a biocompatible device that is introduced into the body in order to replace the function of a biological organ in the human body. Implants such as pacemakers, defibrillators, different types of stents are widely used in the field of cardiology for the patients who are in need for the implants. Many improvements and the innovation of new features are made the field to grow and lowers the complication of death in the world.

Interventional cardiology is a field of Cardiology that uses catheter and stents to repair or replace the damaged blood vessels in the heart. It is a minimally invasive process which does not involve blood loss from the patient's body. It is an easy process to remove blocks that are caused due to thickening of the blood vessels because of fat deposits. It helps in avoiding open heart surgery and other complications that are involved in the surgical process. It's also a method used for implantation of various devices into the body. This type of cardiology is used for valve replacement and valve repair procedures. It is a field on which many researchers are currently working on to improve the methodology thus making it more efficient.

Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology which uses the minimal invasive methodology for certain valve replacement and valve repair processes. This methodology uses catheter-based treatment in order to replace the blood vessels. The treatment procedure is focussed to correct the disorder with minimal blood loss and with low risk. It has proved to be a key method in valve replacement and carotid interventions. This branch in the field of cardiology has made the need for open-heart surgery avoidable in certain cases.

Interventional Cardiology is a branch of cardiology which mainly uses a catheter for treating heart diseases. The main advantage of using Interventional cardiology is to reduce pain in the patients and to decrease the recovery time. Use of less bulky balloons are developed for smaller calibre guiding catheters and arterial access during the process are made, developments are made to predict heart failures with the use of devices such as Cardio MEMS implantable heart failure monitor, this type of discoveries and innovations are a boost for the future in the field of interventional cardiology.
